Hi all, next Tuesday I am going for an uptake test for RAI. Just wondering about the length of time you need to be in isolation for afterward. How have you felt after having RAI?
I have been suffering with Graves for twelve months and the Carbimazole is not working. I have a nodule and goitre and antibodies for both hashimotis and graves.
Just wondering how RAI went for others? I am a little nervous.

Was that normal dose RAI for Graves or higher dose RAI for cancer ? It's very unusual to be in hospital isolation after a normal dose.
When I had it was able to go home and virtually carry on life as usual, I had young children so just kept an arms length away for a week or so, still did the school run and so on.
I am due to take RAI in the next two weeks so I can relate. This probably doesn’t help but thought I would reach out anyway as I’ve also felt a little nervous about my situation.
I have Graves and have some harmless nodules on my thyroid which stressed me out mega but luckily we’re benign.
I’m nervous about RAI because I have to stop my medication and I’m currently under control.
I’ve researched the start of time with everything related to thyroid issues and treatment and I think it’s safe to say we’re heading down the right route and to provide some reassurance, I know our doctors have a plan.
May I ask you why you want to have RAI if you are well controlled on your medication? I am just curious if there are other reasons your MD wants to do this procedure on someone who is doing OK .
Hi, thanks for your reply. I got it done and it’s the best thing I could have done. I have felt the best I have felt in years. I got the RAI end of March and afterward I felt lousy for about three weeks then all of a sudden things changed and for the next two week I felt fab! Now I am serverly underactive and I have started on 100mg of Levo. So now I start my journey with no thyroid! I believe now I have done the right thing. When you are overactive you are naturally anxious and wired which doesn’t help and when the carbimizole doesn’t work you don’t have many options...
