Side effects of carbimazole

Hi all. I’m on carbimazole again whilst I wait to have my remaining half of my thyroid removed. Over the last few days I’ve started to get pain under my lower right ribs (liver area ). I know one of the things to look out for with Carbi is liver issues. Should I be worried?

Hi, I had issues with Carbimazole. I took it for 2 weeks and felt great then developed pain on my right side. I had a blood test and my liver enzymes were up to 748 (I think they should be under 30). I was taken off Carbimazole and my liver improved within 2 weeks and dropped to 70. I have now had a full TT as I couldn't tolerate the medication. The only alternative offered was PTU which I understand is harder on the liver. I should contact your GP and ask for advice.

I am on carbimozole and sometimes get that pain. However, I have had liver tests and the results were normal. Ask your GP to do a liver function test to give you peace of mind

Get a liver function blood test done. I am on Carbimazole and now taking Vit D as my liver test showed bone issues - working to fast. The last test showed that my liver was getting back to normal levels.

Had the same issues when I started taking carbimazole. Would recommend to take milk thistle. My liver improved within 4 weaks and liver enzymes were within range. While my GP told me there’s nothing I can do.

i am on carbimazole and initially had high liver levels but they came down and now I take milk thistle every day. Now no problems. It is a very good natural detox.

My husband was prescribed carbimazole early december 2022 had awful side effects. On reading alot of research on carbimazole I would speak to your GP as soon as you are able.
