Low dose of Carbimazole TSH/T4 Results Help - Graves

I have been on Carb since June after being diagnosed with Graves (tested) and carb got my T4 level down very quickly and TSH active again. Consultant put me on 5mg on every other day as I was over medicated on 5mg everyday and TSH was over range at 6.15 (0.27-4) and T4 15.4 (12-22) was in range. Blood test in January TSH had reduced to 2.66 and T4 had increased to 17. Just had another blood test as seeing consultant next week and TSH is now 3.95 and T4 17.8. Just trying to work out why TSH has risen from January and how to interpret the results - as consultant had said he ideally wanted TSH to be around 1 for my age (early 40s!) I feel fine as before but just wondered if its working. I am due to stay on until Dec (18 months in total!)

Your disease course is similar to mine. It is common when treated with carbimazole to veer towards hypothyroidism and hence why Block and Replace regimen can be preferable. However perhaps just reducing carbimazole to 2.5 mg might be worth a try as you might be heading towards remission. Also it would be better if your doc measured fT4 and fT3 rather than T4. Good that you are feeling ok.

Thanks reallyfedup123, I have had the Graves Antibodies test which was positive but I will speak to the consultant! Thanks Asiatic I will ask if we can reduce and again ask about ft4/3 Its never simple lol! Thanks very much to you both!
