Advice on blood tests please... :)

Hi all,

While having a look around on patient access (online booker and medication requests) after booking an appointment for a follow up for bloods, I noticed my blood test results are back already. They allow you to have a look at these results. I have attached a pic of the TSH and the T4 was 8.2 (won't allow me to add two pics). I have an appointment anyway to discuss my results for my latest batch, but was just wondering if these are really bad, or just borderline. I have been feeling worse over the past week, dizzy and headaches and an apparent sudden intolerance to cheese... Went with IBS type symptoms, so the cheese makes sense, but the rest unless these tests are bad don't!

My 8 year old little one has Hashimotos and type 1 diabetes, so wouldn't surprise me if something did flag up with me or her dad but really find it difficult to interpret these results.

I have had severe fatigue (but always put it down to times of being up with my daughter) and then a vitamin d deficiency. Muscle cramps, tingling in my hands, headaches and dizziness, forgetfulness, etc etc.... Just feel ready for the scrap heap to be fair!

Any advice or opinions would be amazing.

Thank you in advance.

Rach

Primary hypothyroidism is diagnosed when TSH teaches 10. You should be started on Levo immediately, 50mcg unless you have a heart condition, retest/increase by 25mcg evert 6 weeks until your levels are where they need to be for you to feel well. The aim of a treated hypo patient generally is for TSH to be 1 or lower with FT4 and FT3 in the upper part of their reference ranges if that is where you feel well.

As your child has Hash, ask for your thyroid antibodies to be tested, it's possible that you have too.

How is your Vit D deficiency being treated?

Ask for B12, Folate and Ferritin to be tested, it's possible these levels could also be low. Tingling and dizziness could be low B12.

Rm, they are not 'allowing' you to see your results, they are conforming with the law which says that you have a legal right to see your results - the are YOUR results. :)

"was just wondering if these are really bad, or just borderline"

24 is very high, you definitely need urgent thyroid hormone replacement. As greygoose says you have a right to your results if you are in the UK, and they are not allowed to charge for them. Get a printout or get them online if they have that facility. I was very nervous the first time, in case they refused, but I asked the receptionist and she printed them out straight away with no question. Legally they have to let you have a copy.

Did the results include any other tests? T4? Antibodies? vitamins and minerals? You need everything to be optimal

Hi all, thank you for your replies.

I have an appointment on Monday, so hopefully all tests will be back by then.

I know so far creatine was high, b12 was just within the threshold at the lower end (I am veggie though), sodium and folate the same. Vit D was at an 8 12 months ago, and I was put on capsules but that's now 73.

T4 was 8.2. Also found out from looking in 2013 my Thyroid antibodies were 311, know it's out of range but not too sure again how bad. I know at the time they said I was borderline hyper but would repeat in 6 months and then it came back within range and nothing was done since.

Perhaps my word of 'allow' was not the correct word, the system has them on there (patient access) and was just trying to describe that it's set up so I can see: not sure if all docs do it, but my mom's doesn't. They have given me printouts for my daughter before and really can't fault my latest surgery. So sorry if I confused matters, I find it hard to think of words, or put a sentence together. My husband is concerned about my head being so forgetful as I'm only 33.

Thank you again for all your help. 😊
