I’m new on this forum. I’ve recently come across a page stating all the symptoms for under active thyroid and I have noticed I have quite a lot of these. A year and a half ago I was diagnosed with mild endometriosis and my symptoms just haven’t gotten better. I have been discharged from gynae because it couldn’t have grown back so soon. Anyways, I’m currently under a pain specialist for chronic pelvic pain but nothing seems to be helping, in fact everything is getting worse.

I am so tired all the time, I’ve gained about 2 stone, I’m down most of the time, I have horrible aches and cramps in my back, pelvis, stomach, groin and legs, my hair seems to be falling out, I have NO sex drive at all (I am 21). Most of these symptoms can be symptoms of my endometriosis but I’m beginning to worry that maybe I have something wrong with my thyroid?? My nan Dad and brother all have thyroid problems so it does run in the family.

I don’t really know what to do. Do I make an appointment with my gp??

Endometriosis can be a associated with hypothyroidism. So, yes, you should see your GP, and get him to test your thyroid.

Ask for a print-out of the results, and then you can post them on here, with the ranges, and let us have a look. GPs are always very good at reading blood test results. :)

I think greygoose meant that Doctors are NOT always good at reading test results :-) - but many here will be able to help you ...

"Do I make an appointment with my gp??"

Yes.

Print off the lists of signs and symptoms of hypothyroidism and tick any that apply to you.

Mention the family members who have thyroid conditions.

Ask if any members of your family have any autoimmune disease, if so tell your doctor about these as well.

An autoimmune cause accounts for about 90% of hypothyroidism.

Ask for full thyroid function tests, also ask for vitamins and minerals listed below

TSH

FT4

FT3

Thyroid antibodies

Vit D

B12

Folate

Ferritin

If you can't get them all done with your GP then we have recommended labs that do home fingerprick tests.

Post any results with their reference ranges on the forum for members to comment.
