Hello everybody, I’ve just had my date through of the 14th January for my completion thyroidectomy. Just wondering how quickly people managed to get discharged. When I had my lobectomy I was out next day, but the info given to me by the hospital says 2-4 day stay. Hoping I can get home quickly and you lovely people are always so helpful. Thank you!

Completion thyroidectomy
Those who've had a thyroidectomy will respond when they read your question. I wish you a speedy recovery.
Hi. I was only in overnight and purely because they wanted to check calcium didn’t go haywire. I was purely completion no lymph node clearing or anything. Recovered reasonably quickly, didn’t run for two weeks. Was on t3 till RIA so felt fab.
Hi,
I had my thyroid removed approx 17 years ago, so things may be different now.I was in on a Thursday, had the op Friday.Of course they don't do much at the weekend, so I think discharged Tuesday. I hate to say it, but It took me a long time to recover.I was off work 3/4 weeks I think. I didn't get on well with thyroxine alone,so was referred to Endo and prescribed T3 as well, which is really needed if you have no thyroid left.I gradually recovered with the T3.
Then it was no problem getting the T3, but nowadays you will have a fight on your hands to get it prescribed. The main thing is don't accept that you have to put up with things if you don't feel right, and keep insisting on seeing an endo. Good luck!
Don't have anything useful to add (sorry!). But best of luck and I wish you a quick recovery. As others have said, T4+T3 is likely even more essential where there is zero thyroid function or the thyroid gland has been entirely removed.
