Swelling after thyroidectomy

Hi

I had a total thyroidectomy on 22 Nov. Over the past couple of days I have a soft ‘squishy’ swelling around the wound.

Is this just oedema and will go in time or should I be more concerned.

Thanks for listening, ali8655

I'd suggest phoning 111 and speak to someone about your concerns.

To be honest I never think of ringing them. Thanks for reminding me that they are there.

If you feel it's urgent then ring 111 as MaisieGray suggests but you could also contact your GP on Monday morning. I would tell reception that it's urgent and ask to speak to a GP on the day who can then advise whether you need an urgent appointment. You can also contact your surgeon's secretary with your query and ask for the surgeon's advice. They may say contact your GP but then you'll have ammunition for speaking to GP reception for an urgent appointment.
