Treated with radioactive iodine when I was 13 for hyperthyroidism and Graves' disease. Successfully treated and now hypothyroid. Currently taking levothyroxine but stopped for a few months and felt fine. Lab results came back and was extremely hyperthyroid with high cholesterol but mentally felt more alert?

"Lab results came back and was extremely hyperthyroid with high cholesterol but mentally felt more alert?" since you had stopped taking thyroid medicine do you mean you were HYPOthyroid?? Not hyperthyroid?

The results came back hypothyroid, yes. But I felt sharp, is this strange? My doctor prescribed me 75mcg and I've been on it but I haven't been able to think! This is very strange. How consistent are people on the same medication? I feel like I'm striving for control but have not been able to find it with the constant fluctuation in levels and dosages.

You need to have blood tests 6 weeks after changing dose of levothyroxine and adjust according to results. Are you taking levothyroxine on an empty stomach and leaving 1 hour until drinking or eating anything except for water? Do you leave 4 hours between taking thyroid meds and any other medicines or supplements? Have you been tested for thyroid antibodies and what were the results?

Adjusting dosages for more than 5 years now but i dont think i can say ive ever felt well on levothyroxine. thats why i've been considering alternative medications. see i dont understand what this medication is suppose to do. and i havent tried the natural thyroid route. after being off medication for 3 months, i felt mentally focused but after getting my labs, my doctor has not been open to changing my medication because she wants me stable on 75mcg. my TSH level was 200 something... im crossed between working with her in getting my level's normal. it might seem silly but i was working better without the medication... even though my labs said i shouldn't have been.

I take the levothyroxine every morning now, with a full glass of water and it makes my thoughts cloudy and im scared and depressed and mentally unfocused. i haven't the motivation to get out of bed, and am not coping well.

i havent been tested for antibodies.
