Can anyone explain the benefits of this to me in laymens terms please. I am a severe lung patient and have ongoing trauma with needless highs and lows of Throyid disease hypodthroyidisim was diagnosed into year 5 of surviving end stage lung disease. Recently I went to breathing tests in London my specialists for the rare genetic disease I inherited which has wiped out my lungs young lungs noted drops in both FEV and gas transfer , scary stuff, I have been whizzing around a year. Would a T3 help me ? They again lower the dose down and I start to immediately feel a little better but worry I am going to feel slugged, so I go from crash and burn syndrome ongoing and its really concerning on my being severely compromised from lung disease...I have asked repteadly for referal to Specialist and I am being informed no need...??? Really who in their right mind would refuse me in this I ask. I could at these levels in lung function be assessed for a Transplant! This cannot be correct, just or right, can anyone help me at wits end..I am on 100mcg levo, then lowered to 75 one day and 100 next I am due a test after a month..I never knew on not taking the drugs the same day as test either !!! I am beyond sick of this filthy crap on my weekend body state, please help or advise me someone in terms I will fully understand!!! Palpitations as I was clearly overdosed but on any decrease I drop into oblivion status , wits end and worried I could end up with hypertension ta boot through this pantomime I run continually with gp's.. I am now up for a lung scan and heart scan in London next year March time with a ecg overnight being done here locally awaiting notification on this one...Why will they not refer me and more is the point why will they not convert the medication properly to me .If I was a normal person without lung disease I could handle this but not as I am ..advise anyone please.

Am hoping your post and replies of 3 years ago are helpful - in the link above. In particular the reply from greygoose ...

Do you have any results with ranges to share ? :-)

A couple of amendments on that post:

I Don't know what the T3 situation is in the US, but in the UK, it's so very, very expensive that doctors - who Don't know anything about it, anyway - are reluctant to prescribe it. In France and Belgium, you can usually get it from the doctor quite easily. But, it's still prescription only, as it is in most European countries, except for Greece/Crete, where you can buy it over the counter.

Things are changing in France, and it's getting harder to get T3 prescribed - through ignorance, of course - or get the FT3 tested.

And I believe T3 is almost non-existant, from what I've read on here. NDT is the norm, there.

And, I'm sure Marz will tell you, you now have to have a prescription in Greece/Crete. Isn't that right? But, I believe you can still get it OTC in Turkey. :)

Yes I have a prescription that allows me a monthly supply of T3. T4 can be purchased over the counter ...

Just spoken to them TSH 0.17, T4 20.5 no T3 showing what do I do next? I have switched down on this med 100/75 mcg alternative days, for a little over a week ..so it appears I recovered quickly from the over dose factor then? of 100mcg, which dose beggars absolute belief! ..much appreciated advise on this lot now ..thanks!

What benefit would I gain from this? I need to referral to Specialist, and I aim to get it here, its a disgrace I could end up with Pulmonary Hypertension a dreaded disease lung patients fear! For good reason, my heart works astoundingly well due to the dedicated effort on exercise I do walk wise daily...its how I prevented me ending up in double transplant land to begin with as I was diagnosed with end-stage lung disease, so my lungs are totally knackered and through determination I have kept what little I have left functioning..which is why I do not want the thyroid to bugger me up! ...

You would get all the tests done - including T3 & anti-bodies. Go to the main website of this forum and click onto About Testing - see link below ...
