Could you please send this to Lord Howe, who, when I queried the massive increase in 2013, told me that it was important to note that “there is range of costs involved in the research, development, production and distribution of medicines. These costs can vary widely and may explain the difference between the price of liothyronine in the UK and elsewhere”. And five years on those difficulties are still plaguing these poor Pharma companies...funny how a big country like France does not have terrible manufacturing and transport costs. They must leave it all to the fairies...
A bit of oneupmanship! From BNF 53 March 2007 (cost 2p plus £2-79 postage).
Stupid Healthunlocked will not let me insert the image here, can only do it for new posts. Relevant text: -
Tertroxin (R) (Goldshield)
Tablets, scored, liothyronine sodium 20 micrograms,
net price 100-tab pack = £15.92.
Note that 'Tertroxin' has been debranded to 'liothyronine' and the price has doubled.
Thanks for posting this, it is very useful because it shows a doubling in the price of liothyronine during a period when there was no change in formulation (as far as I know) and no change in MHRA requirements.
I did rough 20% increase year on year since then . Just about £68 for same amount . Costly, but nothing like it does cost 💰💰💰💰
TBH looks like they were over charging back then at that price
