The NHS endo I saw at the Western Hospital in Edinburgh last week said that there are some patients in Scotland who get NDT prescribed to them on the NHS. He said he doesn’t know how they manage to get it. He should find out! I’d like to know how I can get it, he told me he couldn’t prescribe it for me.

Getting NDT on NHS in Scotland
There's quite a few people having NDT prescribed on NHS. Most are legacy patients.
I think I've read about couple had it prescribed recently (as of last couple of years).
My Endo said exactly same as yours - he can't prescribe on NHS. But sounded like he's pro- and knows about it and monitors his patients on NDT privately purchased.
I think it will be hard to get it prescribed on NHS unless you find that specific endo who's happy to prescribe.
Ask him if he will monitor you and test your bloods if you self medicate
At one time - before blood tests and levothyroxine were introduced by Big Pharma - we were diagnosed by our symptoms alone and prescribed NDT. It has been in use, safely, since 1892 and without any blood tests to do so. Only symptoms were considered and people were given a trial and if they felt much better they continued on it and were hypo due to their clinical symptoms.
Some Endocrinologists can prescribe NDT but many will not do so as Big Pharma was good with rumours and the Association also has stated False Rumours. One of our Advisers (before his death) did write to the Associations and despite three yearly reminders before his death they never did respond. How can people who are supposd to be knowledgeable in their sphere refuse to listen to patients and experts !!!! NDT used to be prescribed by the NHS. Why keep patients unwell and costing more to the NHS and giving them their lives back and be able to work etc.
and be symptom-free once more.
Its criminal and in breech of the NHS patients charter. How can this madness keep going on? NHS procurement are getting off with negligence. Infuriating!
Yes, he can prescribe it. My GP in the West of Scotland prescribes NDT to me on a named patient basis. However, she is retiring in about a year's time and I don't know what will happen then. She seems to think the practice will continue to prescribe it as I am doing well on it but I'm not so sure.
