i haven't read this paper yet. There have been a number of similar studies that show patients with low T3 levels have worse outcomes. In jargon it's not clear whether low T3 is 'protective or pathogenic'. i.e. nobody knows whether the low T3 protects the patient or whether it makes things worse. Patients with more cardiac damage tend to have lower T3 levels. Doctors are reluctant to try T3 in case it leads to increased death rates. Eventually I suspect such a trial will need to be done, give half the study group T3 and half no T3 and compare outcomes.

I’ve yet to fully digest this paper but I think I’d rather be in the first group!
