Thyroiditis/ Itching head: Hi i am new here... - Thyroid UK
Thyroiditis/ Itching head
Itchy head which I scratched until the area was bleeding was something I used to suffer with. Your post reminded me that yet another hypo symptom has disappeared 😊 Are you optimally treated for your thyroid ? I would aim for that rather than lotions and potions that may be harmful ! Allergic reactions can be linked to the immune system - do you have Hashimotos ?
I suffered these symptoms with hashimotos thyroiditis.
I trialled many shampoos. Settled on Child Farm organic shampoo from Tesco (often get for £3), or Lloyds chemist approx £4.50. It smells lovely as has fruit in it such as mango. Nothing nasty in it.
Your right, the more you wash skin and scalp, the worse the problem. Skin needs natural body producing oil, which washing reduces. Don't use toiletries containing SLS too harsh.
I found antihistamines helped with itching, thereby reducing need to scratch and potential infections.
I did get chemical testing and was suffering metal toxicity. So, all make-up had to go too!
Good luck. And, welcome here at HU. You are amongst friends!
The tiny bumps on your arms may be separate from the issue with your head. There's a common benign condition often referred to as 'chicken skin', because that's what it can look like, proper name Keratosis pilaris.
