Is ths for carpel tunnel? If so that suggests you are not on enough Levothyroxine

Carpel tunnel is classic hypothyroid symptom

See you are coeliac, so presumably have Hashimoto's

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, essential to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4, FT3 plus TPO and TG thyroid antibodies and also very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers.

All thyroid tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. When on Levothyroxine, take last dose 24 hours prior to test, and take next dose straight after test. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)

If also on T3, make sure to take last dose 12 hours prior to test

Hi,SlowDragon,

Thank you for your reply.

I have had further tests for coeliac and as yet (thankfully),I don't have this condition.

As for extra vitamins I take, vit.d. b6. & b12. & codliver oil.

This is working well so far, along with thyroxine.

It isn't carpel tunnel. I have basel thumb arthritis in both hands, to which the treatment is cortisone injections,or remove a bit of bone, which I don't want at my age as it takes too long to recover.

My concern is the side affect of the cortisone injections, could they interfere with my thyroxine levels?

Possibly yes steroids could affect Thyroid levels

I guess you will just have to wait and see. Perhaps get thyroid levels checked just before and a week or so after steroid injection

By the way a negative test for coeliac, doesn't rule out gluten intolerance, especially if you have Hashimoto's

According to Izabella Wentz the Thyroid Pharmacist approx 5% with Hashimoto's are coeliac, but over 80% find gluten free diet helps significantly. Either due to direct gluten intolerance (no test available) or due to leaky gut and gluten causing molecular mimicry (see Amy Myers link)

Thanks very much for your advice,I had a feeling it might affect my levels.

I will definitely cut out gluten.

Also think I'll not have the cortisone injections, hopefully see how I go.

My hands ached sooo much in the morning. I had to soak them in hot water just to get them mobile again. As soon as my eltroxin was at the 75mcg. It gradually went away. . . Am now on 150mcg and my hands are great. . . Not Stiff. Sore swollen in the morning or late evening . Altho. . If I am stressed. . . Overworked or overtired. The next morning they are stiff. . . . Would Check dose with doc. . . . And maybe up it. . . BUT. . Not without advice. . . . X

If more pain from joint degeneration, rather than inflammation of the joints then Ostenil may be an option. It’s more of a joint lubricant, non prescription as far as I am aware, but needs to be injected by someone that knows what they are doing.
