Has anyone gained weight on hydrocortisone?!

Or is it common? I can only find signs for cushings online but wondered if it will still a side effect of taking it. Anyone? I am a slim size 10, but I’m definitelt fuller recently..

HydroCortisone causes bad water-retention in some people. So, that would make you put on weight - it did me!

If you are on therapeutic dose of Hydrocortisone then you shouldn't put on weight. Not sure of the reason as to why you are on HC, but too much will cause Cushing's syndrome or it can shut your adrenal glands completely where you end having to be on HC to live. Depending on how often you are taking it, it could be that you are having high peaks of HC which can cause weight gain. It is recommended to split it into smaller doses more often. HC is NOT the wonder drug that most people think it is!

Hi there - yes I am - came out of hospital after Sepsis on 200 mg !!!! - definitely put on weight - but it saved my life - that and the antibiotics. Out of all the steroids I was told this was the best as it is more natural - if not totally natural - and therefore controls the water balance in the body far better than say prednisone or prednisolone. As someone has said not sure what dose you are on and why - so can't say more at this stage.

SlowDragon I was originally on 20hc and am now tapering (currently on 10mcg - split between morning and 12pm only). Dr Peatfield put me on it as he believed I had poor adrenal function. My thyroid is heading towards optimal (had blood test this morn so will see!) And all vitamins are optimal except iron and folate which I’m working on. I am definitely rounder in my tummy. I’m a size 10 and slim but thighs and tummy area are definitely bigger.

I gained massive amount of weight on deltacortril. It was very difficult to get off of too. And didn't help with thyroid either.

Why are you on hydrocortisone?
