Folate and MTHFR mutation

My folate is low in range and have seen that if you have the MTHFR mutation (which I have), you need methylated folate. Can anyone recommend which one I take to get my folate up a bit? Currently take bio care b complex.

Thanks

If you like Biocare products then they do a Methyl B Complex but that only contains 250mcg methylfolate.

Thorne Basic B contains the active form of ingredients and has 400mcg methylfolate in 1 capsule. It's the one I used to raise my bottom of range folate to top of range in 2.5 months.

Igennus Super B Complex again contains the active form of ingredients and 2 tablets gives 400mcg methylfolate.

May I ask what your folate was? Mine is 10 and my ferritin is 21 ( been prescribed tablets) do you class 10 as low for folate?

Ndobins

do you class 10 as low for folate?

That depends on what the range is.

With my original test my result was 6.9and the range was 4.6-18.7.

Next text had a different range, my result was 42.32 and the ange was10-42.4

Another test had a range of 8.83-60.8

My most recent test

gave a "range" of >2.9

So you can see how it's impossible to answer your question :)

10.4ug/L range 2.5-9999.0

Sorry 🤦‍♀️

Well the top end of that range is pretty stupid :D - one can't exactly get to half way through it!

My opinion is that 10.4 is quite low and I'd want mine a fair bit higher.

If you don't already take one, I'd get a decent B Complex such as Thorne Basic B or Igennus Super B.

As I said, you cannot aim for halfway through that range, it doesn't have an upper limit other than a very stupid 9999.0

If you want to aim for the recommended "at least half way through range" then you will have to test with someone who has a proper range. Check with Medichecks and Blue Horizon to see if they use a range with an upper and lower limit or whether they use >XX, then go for the one with the proper range.

Medichecks is 2.91-50.00. That’s the range I meant. So, half way? Thanks

Yes, halfway at least, so 26.5 plus
