General query...how to highlight a name.

Hi, just wanted to ask how to highlight a name in a post. Once highlighted, does this notify the person concerned?

So many people have helped me recently, and I will have questions in future, but as there are so many posts some get pushed down the list and I just wondered if highlighting a name will ensure the person/s I’m contacting will get the relevant post, and the thanks for helping!

Cheers!

You put @ in front of the member's user name but don't leave a space so it's

@ ZippyAppletush with no space

and then a list pops up below where you're typing, you choose the member's name from the list which gets highlighted with a blue band, and the name turns blue in the message you're typing (you need to check that it's turned blue)

If it's highlighted like that then an email is sent to the member saying they've been "mentioned" and there is a link they can click to take them to the post, also the little indicator bell at the top of this page (on my PC) has a little orange circle with a number in to indicate there is a notification, clicking on that takes you to the post as well.

Yes, highlighting someone's name does notify them. This is referred to officially as "tagging". To do it, see this help topic :

Thank you @SeasideSusie and @humanbean; not sure if this will work on my phone app, lol! No drop down menu! Here goes...

Hmmm...looks like it doesn’t work on app. I’ll post through web when needed then. Cheers!

Don't know about the App (I'm only on a PC or a tablet), but did you scroll down a bit to see if a list of names popped up?

One other thing, when replying to a particular member, if you use the blue "Reply" directly below their message, they will get an email saying "SeasideSusie replied to you in XXX thread", also a notification by the bell will be indicated. This should have happened with this reply to you and you will see it indented under your message.

If you repy in the box which has the title above it "Reply to Member XX" and "Leave a comment" in the box, that reply isn't directly to the member and there wont be a notification sent.

Thank you for your reply again, SeasideSusie. It would seem there is nothing with the app; I’ve just tried your name again and no drop down. I’ll try it another time through the web on the phone, or on the PC if not. I hope this reply is direct to you, as mentioned in your post. 🤞🏻 Cheers!

I can't do clever icons, just the odd smiley face (I'm a bit pathetic, or my PC is, I need some clicky on ones :D ) but yes - insert clapping hands icon here - your reply came direct to me and I received email notification and notification by the bell :)

Yay! I typed in ‘fingers crossed’ and the icon came up...not sure if it works all the time. Glad it got to you, and now I know what to do for the next time. 😁
