Not sure if it's true but taking thiamine (B1) is reported to puts the blighters off.

I take a multi-B tablet, cover myself in Skin so Soft, which they lick off and still I look as if I have measles. I am using a cream that the French company has taken 20 years to develop and they really shouldn’t have bothered! Something is making my blood very tasty!

It may be that you have a problem with histamine as well. Some people get much worse reactions as they lack the enzyme that breaks histamine down. Look up histamine Intolerance.

Thanks, will do

It looks as though increasing thyroxine did indeed have an affect on rats' histamine levels as shown in this published lab test..

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/790...

I'm not sure about omitting all histamine foods (it's bad enough being gluten/dairy free :-) ), but, taking lots of vitamin c and quercetin + bromelain away from other supplements is something that could help..

Hi HLAB35

is the enzymes called DAO?

I gave been diagnosed with cold urticaria, the Immunologist said the cold increases my histamine level causing the urticaria. I did not have it before I been diagnosed with hypo. and did wonder if there is a connection.

Thank you.

Yes, that's the one. I really believe there is a connection and as with many 'side issues' to do with Hashi's I expect that it's generally overlooked / misunderstood by the medical establishment.

Many thanks for replying,

do you mind me asking, do you have problems with histamine, if so do you take DAO?

No I don't take DAO, but we (my family) have had a lot of 'allergies'. I found that when I stopped eating gluten / dairy most of my symptoms went, so I have not taken it any further. My daughter, however, has found that she needs a bit of extra help. Her grandmother had appalling allergies, so bad that she had attributed all her symptoms including those for low thyroid to that. Her great grandfather had really weak lungs due to asthma. My daughter recently found that quercetin + bromelain worked after about a month of taking it. Also, sea buckthorn for dry, irritated eyes. I can't say whether it'd work for everyone, but these seem good for hayfever at least (possible sjrogens).

Many thanks for your reply,

sorry to hear of all the allergic problems your family have suffered from.

I have just been reading about quercetin and bromelain so will give it a try.

Also interesting about magnesium as I take quite a high dose of Vit D and someone on the forum said it can deplete magnesium levels, so I will start to take magnesium as well.

Thank you for the link and your help.

Plus, I forgot to mention --- Magnesium. Reading 'The Magnesium Miracle' made me realize that it was crucial to helping with all my metabolic issues and will help those with allergic symptoms as well. Magnesium deficiency will increase plasma histamine levels.

Yes, this is an interesting topic. When I first came to the US from England we used to go camping a lot. In the evening everyone would gather round the communal camp fire. Almost to a man, all of the Americans would be chased away within half an hour due to swarming mosquitos, they kept saying, "Arn't they driving you crazy?!" to which I answered "What?", I could just sit there all evening and not be bothered. From this I concluded that it must be diet which is causing the exuding of something through the skin which Mosquitos either love or hate. Either they hated the English diet or loved something the Americans were eating. We concluded it was tea (the only unique thing which I drank but they didn't) - although that was just the conclusion of a bunch of tired, half drunk no nothings. I'm not sure if it still works I haven't been around many mosquitos lately.

in reply to LAHs

That’s where I’m going wrong. I don’t drink tea. 😂

I have lived in Crete since 2004 and am mostly spared the little critters ! They love Hubby ! I use a product called White Flower from Hong Kong - a few dabs before sleep. Also good for aches and pains when rubbed into painful areas ... I think it is the eucalyptus ingredient they do not like. Eucalyptus trees line the roads leading into many Greek villages ... standing guard 😊

Have just found it on the web. Must order some. My OH is fine, but he doesn’t take any tablets
