Hi i am 34 and on 225mcg of levothyroxine and i was just wondering what dosage they go up to and what happens next. Thank you
Dosage: Hi i am 34 and on 225mcg of levothyroxine... - Thyroid UK
Dosage
Over 200mcg is unusual but not unheard of. In the past 200mcg - 400mcg was typical
What are your main ongoing symptoms
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4, TT4, FT3 plus TPO and TG thyroid antibodies and also very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Low vitamin levels are extremely common as is poor absorption
Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers.
All thyroid tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. When on Levothyroxine, don't take in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take straight after. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)
If antibodies are high this is Hashimoto's, (also known by medics here in UK more commonly as autoimmune thyroid disease).
About 90% of all hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto's. Low vitamins are especially common with Hashimoto's. Food intolerances are very common too, especially gluten. So it's important to get TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested at least once .

Hi
Hope that you are ok.
It would be helpful to know how you are feeling.
The best article on good health I’ve read in a while is by Sarah Myhill- if you google her name her web page will come up and search under orchestra. It tells you all you need to know re helping yourself get well.
Slowdragon is right about full bloods and vitamins.
The most important steps are
Diet ( have you hashimotos or gluten intolerant)
Absorbtion of food and vitamins
Vitamin levels
Then thyroid and adrenals.
200 mcg is ok if it’s working. I see far higher - that said if you are not say converting t4 to t3 then it’s not the right combination. Without results it’s hard to be more definitive. And/ or you should monitor temps with a basal thermometer. Helps you touch base cheaply.
