I've been diagnosed with overactive thyroid again. Put on carbimazole. I don't understand how my friend who's underactive doesn't have to pay for prescriptions and I do. It's stupid thyroid trouble is thyroid trouble whether it is over or under..

It's because hyperthyroidism is treatable with potential cure whereas hypothyroidism is a life long condition.

I have no difficulty in agreeing that Graves is eminently worthy of "free" prescriptions - but, as you know, it isn't.
For now, you might do better by purchasing a prepayment certificate which would limit the cost to £104 a year. Details here:

I live in Wales, so don’t pay anyway - and I don’t know whether this would work for you.
A few times, I’ve been prescribed Carbimazole at the hospital, and told to collect the prescription from the hospital pharmacy.
Each time, they’ve given me a pot of 100x 20mg, rather than the usual 28 days worth
