My doctor told me to take 150 per day for 4 weeks then a bloody test at 6 weeks how many weeks medication is this?
Thyroxine : My doctor told me to take 150 per day... - Thyroid UK
Thyroxine
A very odd way to prescribe 150 a day!
But - you have 100 plus two 25s a day for 28 days (four weeks). And 100 a day plus a split 100 for 14 days (two weeks). That assumes you throw away the half tablets and gives you six weeks of 150 a day.
It would have been less expensive to have been prescribed two packs of 100 plus two packs of 50 because tablets of 25 are more expensive than tablets of 50 or 100! It would have been simpler. And it would have lasted eight weeks.
I would clarify the prescription with your doctor or pharmacist. It's possible they gave you 25 mcg tablets instead of 50 mcg tablets. The pharmacist's label on the tablet box should tell you how much to take but sometimes it is omitted. Clarify how much you should take and whether you have received the correct tablets. If the blood is taken in six weeks then you will need to take the tablets for at least six weeks. The '150 per day for 4 weeks' is a bit confusing.
Whoever reorders my levothyroxin from my Gp surgery gets confused with my dose of two different levothyroxin dose pills regularly , should be 100 and 25 mcg s, but the 25 goes adrift, two lots of 100 appear etc...so it might be a mistake compounded by the fact you have had a combo 125mcg before I believe.
I've decided I'm not taking 150 a day or 120/150 on alternative days as I do think its to much of a step up. Bearing in mind I was taking 100/125 alternative days before for 4 weeks before.
So I'm going to take 125 a day for 6 weeks then have a blood test. If I still feel bad I will then go 125/150 alternative then eventually if that don't work 150 per day.
I'd have jumped to the 125/150 version as 25 mcg extra every two days is not a lot- depends how under medicated you feel?
