Hashimoto’s thyroiditis increase in levo and having side effects. Are they normal?

I was on 50mcg of levo and had it increased from 50mcg to 75mcg three weeks ago. Just the last few days I am waking up with a more inflamed thyroid, tenderness in neck and getting a bad tatse in my mouth. Is this normal or should I go back down to 50mcg?

Has your brand of levothyroxine changed? Have you been tested for thyroid antibodies?

Same brand (Mylan) and yes my TPO antibodies were 1,378 last June of 2017. I have full labs in 4 weeks. TSH free T3 free T4 reverse T3 and TGab antibodies. I’m gluten, dairy and soy free. My last labs 6 weeks ago were

TSH 3.72ulU/ML (0.27-4.20)

Ft4 1.3 NG/DL (0.9-1.7)

Ft4 2.77PG/ML (2.57-4.44)

I asked for increase due to lab results and labs are ordered to get done 7 weeks after starting this new dose.

Is it normal to have this happen with an increase?

You do need to allow 6 weeks between dose increases before checking thyroid results again. At least they have increased your dose. As you are highly positive for TPO antibodies your gut absorption is likely to be trashed. Vit D, B12, ferritin, iron and folate can all be low. If you can afford a medichecks finger prick blood test to check those things it would be helpful. See if you GP will do them. When you have results post on here. Have a look at Seaside Susie comments to those who are low in Vitamins. GP's often prescribe 800 IU's of VIT D, no use to anyone with thyroid issues! Need much higher dosage, likewise with B12, being within the range is not good enough, need to be at top of range. Do hope you start to feel some improvement.

I thank you for answering, this is all fairly new to me. I am on D3 , that was at 18. I am on B12 and my ferritin was 69 I have not had my folate checked. I did just order transdermal magnesium oil and that should be delivered today. I appreciated our response. Thank you so much!! ❤️

What dose of D3 are you taking and are you taking Vit K with it? With a figure of 18 I am amazed you could get out of bed!

I was taking K but stopped. I’m on 30.000 iu weekly of D3. I was on 50,000 at first but dropped it down. I was taking K but have not been in the last 6 months.

My doctor was surprised I was getting out of bed too. I work full time as a hairdresser and salon owner. It’s only by the grace of God. I truly feel awful.

Are you in UK

Vitamin D measured in nmol

If abroad it's measured ng/ml

I’m in the USA. I will take a look at SeasideSusie info on vitamins. Thank you for finding and posting her link. My magnesium oil spray was delivered today. I look forward to using when I get home from work. This day has dragged.

My doctor originally called in a vitamin D prescription but it was D2 and I know that has to tax my liver. He started me on 50.000 iu weekly. I bought D3 online instead and took 50,000 iu a week for about 2 months and dropped down to 30,000iu weekly. Thank you again!!
