My body, suddenly, is not being able to adapt to changing temperature and I have started falling sick frequently

Hello!

I am 24 years old and I have had a successful abortion (through medications) almost 5 months back. Since then, I have noticed that my body is having problem in regulating its temperature because of which I keep getting throat issues like sore throat, throat pain, etc.

Can someone please help me understand if all this is a result of abortion or if its something else?

Best to see a doctor for full blood tests to include thyroid and thyroid antibodies. It could be a few things to include the side effects of the abortion pills.

The abortion pills work by 1/ blocking your own progesterone and 2/ induce contractions; so, the pregnancy is terminated. The first pill will create a hormonal imbalance with excess estrogen and the second one can reduce your stomach acid. Both estrogen dominance and the lack of stomach acid will affect the thyroid function which helps to regulate the body temperature.

Thank you very much for the information.

So, you suggest me to get a thyroid test done? I will definitely consult a local general physician but should I consult a gynaecologist as well?

Definitely, yes, if you have a direct access to a gynaecologist. I hope you'll feel better soon.

If it were me, I would, as already suggested, have a complete thyroid workup by an endocrinologist who I would ask to also do tests for estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. As the meds work by changing our bodies hormone balance you might have a double hormone problem taking place. IMO, I would choose the endocrinologist before the gynecologist as I believe this is more of a hormone problem. You will probably have to push to get these workups but don't give up. It's your body and you have the right to feel well. Take care. xx irina
