Post partum - weaning

Saw an endo yesterday and he is certain I have PPT (from pregnancy/miscarriages) and would have watched and waited before going onto thyroid med. We are going to wean me off NDT to see if I’m euthyroid. I was tested and had negative antibodies at the time, was asymptomatic and am fairly hopeful. Any helpful experiences/information would be welcomed .

I’d still like to try for another baby . (although I’m pretty old ) My previous fertility rate seems to have been affected although it’s still good for my age ( having tested ) and I also understand that PPT may return in subsequent pregnancies . To my knowledge my first pregnancy 7 years ago was healthy and I was clear of any thyroid issues.

Has anyone any tips on supporting thyroid for the best outcome? The advantage is that I have already had around 18 months of supplementing known deficiencies and of self care. I know iodine rich foods are recommended . I’m also going to speak to a TCM Doctor.

I appreciate I may feel unwell over this weaning period but have his full support and had I seen him sooner then this process would have been implemented anyhow. If I do have permanent hypothydroidism at least I will know rather than wonder if I’m on a med I don’t need.

Thanks in advance of any shares of similar experiences .

Do you have Hashimoto's also called autoimmune thyroid disease diagnosed by high thyroid antibodies?

I quickly looked through past posts, couldn't see an antibodies test anywhere

If you have high antibodies you want to steer clear of iodine

Is that negative for both TPO and TG antibodies. Or only TPO tested?

Do you have the copies of any blood tests with you taking NDT? That would give some indication as to whether you can come off it or not. How much are you taking?

Yes - we went through all those together . 2 grain . Whole history and up to present .

2 grains of NDT would be a lot to take if you didn't need it. I think you would know. Endos like doing this sort of thing. They like playing with their patients, always trying to prove that they're not hypo after all! If there's one thing a doctor hates, it's diagnosing someone with hypothyroidism. So, beware.

I hear what you’re saying but I don’t want to be hypo . I definitely was ( the tests showed hypo around the time of miscarrying) and we are saying that it could be temporary (post partum) based on the fact I was not unwell and my thyroid was out of whack at that time. There was no watching and waiting because of my desperation to conceive again!

If I am still hypo after we check then we will continue with the NDT . I did have the option of staying on med but I don’t want med if my thyroid has recovered and if I no longer need it.

My thyroid may well have had a good long sleep/rest while the hormones were going in and therefore may be recovered or may not . I won’t know until I try.
