Apologies for jumping in here. I've just bought organic aswaghanda capsules but haven't started taking them yet so will also be interested in any comments.
Personally I would do a 24 hour saliva adrenal test first. If you Google Ashwagandha there are a lot of references to it lowering cortisol, not what you want if your cortisol is already low.
Ashwagandha is an adaptogen. Like all adaptogens, they work with the body to balance certain hormones, for example, cortisol. In my case, cortisol was barely detectable. I have been taking Ashwagandha for 4 years now and it has helped my adrenals and my body to tolerate NDT. Ashwagandha has also several other properties and can help nourish all glands. It's worth a try while noting what we all have learned is what's work for one not necessarily work for others.
Several years ago I did the saliva test for cortisol and other hormones- my cortisol was flatlined - tried TAD by serigild- 1 year later no improvement - tried ashwaganda - no improvement according to tests - still flatlined - I was shaking all the time exhausted - finally saw a functional specialist who told me no for adhwaganda as in my case it lowered cortisol - went on low dose hydrocortisone, progesterone - slowly adrenal function improved now on cortex adrenal - I need to be very careful with stress rest etc for me ashwaganda made my symptoms worse
