So I got my first ever bovine adrenal cortex (BSE-free) supplement delivered today in the post and took half a capsule (125mg) just before.
FYI, I did a private 8.30am serum cortisol test via Medichecks recently:
323 nmol/l (133 - 537).
That was a finger prick blood sample, so not the most accurate, but good enough for ballpark and shows my blood cortisol is around the middle of "normal" range. Although I would be much happier with it closer to 400, I'd hate to make it worse;
Does anyone know whether taking adrenal glandulars causes shutdown of natural secretion of cortisol at the HPA upon withdrawing from these supplements?
If you compare these to my 2015 results, thyroid hormones are virtually identical @ 2 years apart. V slight increase in FT4 of 0.2 and an even smaller FT3 reduction of 0.05. Those variations would easily sit within lab measuring error tolerances; If these differed by 1 magnitude (i.e. 2 and 0.5), then I would be a little more concerned (as this would be a widened T4:T3 ratio).
Regards Hashi's: TPAob reduced from 280 to 120, Thyroglobin Abs; 12.5 in 2015, reported as less than 10 in 2017. While not perfect, it indicates improvement of autoimmune status and further evidence my thyroid was stable at that time.
Fully gluten free for other reasons than my antibodies.
I also supplement red krill oil 1000mg, a high strength circumin liquid extract, Vit D 5800iu, Vit C 1000mg, Zinc Gluconate 15mg, Yeast Flakes (GF), plus I'm currently doing an oestrogen flush-out with broccoli extract, spinach extract, Calcium D Gluconate, Indole-3-Carbinol & Milk Thistle.
I was taking selenium until Jan, then switched to l-selenomethionine 200mcg. I've been getting uncharacteristic strong anxiety rushes every morning this week - I feel selenium is now over-stimulating my thyroid. No l-selenomethionine today - no anxiety either.
Also, the consensus seems to be fix any adrenal issues before even considering thyroid.. hence me taking my first dose of adrenal cortex today (along with Manganese to neutralise any copper imbalance).
I've very recently stopped taking Magnesium Biglycinate - been dosing 1000-1500mg for a few years now, too much Mag can lower cortisol....
which links back to my main question about extended use of glandulars and long-term down-regulation of the HPTA?
