Weird question about voice a yr after thyroidectomy

I had a thyroidectomy almost 14 months ago and been having voice issues off and on ever since and really never given much thought to it until recently when this screeching noise that I've been experiencing for past year has suddenly increased in frequency and volume. It's annoying that my normal conversations have suddenly turned into strange looks because I have these high pitch screeching noises. Anyone else have this issue ? Did you do anything to get rid of the screech noise?

Canyouhearthat,

Were your vocal chords damaged during the surgery?

I was told everything went fine during surgery, no issues. Seems to be worse at night and while at work. I work at gym so I talk almost entire time but its so random but really embarrassing because it's loud sounds like a screech in between words. I don't have a sore throat but I've had a swollen tonsil for a long time.

Canyouhearthat,

If it was related to surgery it would have happened immediately. I would get it checked out. Perhaps you have nodules on your vocal chords? I think it's called stridor.

I don't think it's usual to have that problem with your voice after thyroidectomy so it would be worth getting it checked out.

Your voice may well be weaker after a total TT.

I teach and find my voice weakens as the day progress until there isn't much left by the evening! Lucky husband!

Do get things checked out, one side of my throat and vocal cords are paralysed but hey ho I can still talk! It's a simple procedure for someone to look down your throat to see what's going on.

Don't delay.
