Sending out love and healing to everyone here suffering from thyroid issues!
I have a uninodular toxic goiter/goitre that I first noticed at 17. Since my levels weren't "bad enough" to push surgery on me initially, I avoided the advice of multiple doctors over the years, mostly because I had no support system and no money and was terrified.
Now at 34 (and now with many years of serious symptoms being ignored and masked by prescribed antidepressants and even Aderall for a time - not recommended) I am having to bite the bullet. Tomorrow morning, first thing.
I'm still scared but knowing all of you are out there makes me feel connected. Sending love out to everyone of my sisters and brothers who are in this butterfly boat.

I felt better after my partial thyroidectomy. It was so much easier to breathe and swallow without a flipping great nodule compressing my trachea and bliss to be able to lie down to sleep instead of being banked up by pillows.
I had no difficulty swallowing after surgery and was able to eat sandwiches in the evening (all that was available after I woke up on the ward). I had been advised to have soft foods and soups available at home but didn't need them.
I had very little discomfort once general anaesthetic wore off but the hospital provided copious amounts of pain relief on ward and to take home after discharge.
I'm sending you best wishes but I know you won't need them.
I ate a (hospital) turkey dinner the afternoon of my total thyroidectomy. It was like having a pretty sore throat. The worst part of the whole thing was the pre-op paperwork. (USA) When presented with the option of partial or total I remember thinking, 'Take it all, I don't want to have to fill out these forms again in two weeks if it's cancer....'
I had my thyroid removed two years ago and I am fine now I was not on any medication prior and since joining this site I have learnt a lot and now self medicate and feel fine.
Here in France they don't do a partial only a full TT. Good luck and a swift recovery.
