It is in both calves, not red or burning just really painful. He also suffers from ITP but his platelets are ok at the min, thank god.

Tattylashes,

Hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, iron deficiency, vitamin D deficiency, magnesium deficiency can all cause leg pain. Does the patient take Statins because they can also cause leg pain.

No he does not take Statins and they said his Vitiman D levels are fine now, but pain is worse 💄

Tattylashes,

What is his vitD level and do you have results for thyroid and iron?

He could supplement magnesium citrate and use a magnesium oil spray on his calves and see whether that relieves pain. Epsom Salts in the bath can relax muscles too.

Hi Clutter

They did not give him the results they just said that vitiman D and Iron were fine and as far as we know they have not even tested for thyroid. I did buy him a magnesium spray which he used but it did not help. Sadly we do not have a bath any more for him to have an Epsom Bath.

Tattylashes,

Best to see the results for yourself to check. Some GPs have peculiar ideas about what is fine and what isn't.

I'm out of ideas, so try the mag oil spray and mag citrate supplements again and if they don't work he'll have to see his GP about thyroid tests.

For full evaluation you ideally need TSH, FT4, FT3, TT4, TPO and TG antibodies, plus vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 tested

See if you can get full thyroid and vitamin testing from GP. Unlikely to get FT3

Private tests are available

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers.

All thyroid tests should be done as early as possible in morning and fasting and don't take Levo in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take straight after. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results

Pain during or after taking substantial dose of vitamin D can happen

Vitamin D should be around 100nmol

Just vitamin D test

Tattylashes profile image

How do you register for enhanced access please?

SlowDragon profile image

Ring receptionist and ask if blood tests are available to see online

If they are, how to register to do this

Every gP practice should offer this

In reality very few do

Thank you so much for your help we will do this first thing Monday, although I am already sure they will say No they are not available to view online.

Then you are legally entitled to copies of latest results

Nominal charges for printing out (max £10)

Or can request all of medical record printed out for £50

I have just spoken to him and he was already registered online to the surgery to book appointments etc but we looked and he cld not find access to any test results, so this will be one thing I will be taking up with them first thing Monday as if his results are back I am going to request an emergency appointment. Thank you for your advice 😊

Hi Grincho, I honestly don't understand when you all talk about results like this as we have never had thyroids tested and never been given results for vitiman D etc just told they were either low or fine, cannot cope with our GPS they won't tell you anything. Thank you very much for your help though. He is in absolute agony with the leg pain and nobody seems to give a toss, I hate seeing him like this 😢
