Lowering dose after gluten free.

According to my test results and symptoms, I definitely was still hypo. I went gluten free about 2 1/2 months ago. I now feel hyper...nervousness and diarrhea are main symptoms, but then I was nervous when hypo.

Has anyone had to reduce their dose once they wen gluten free? I really struggle about 2 hours after I thane my morning NatureThroid. I am taking 1 3/4 grains at that time and then 1 grain later in the day. I don’t see, to have issues with the later dose. Maybe the 1 3/4 grain is too big of a hit at once.

I am so confused and not due for blood work for another 6-8 weeks.

Yes definitely worth a retest if your last test was before going GF. I used to have a very high dose before GF and was on the same dose for 15 yrs. I became hyper after 2-3 months and had to reduce meds and then had to reduce again another after another few months to go to normal levels and it then stabilised :-)

Thank you so much for responding. I think I am going to reduce my NatureThroid by a 1/4 grain tomorrow and see if that helps with the symptoms. I don't like this feeling at all. I have anxiety like symptoms when I am hypo, but this feels different. I can't hardly sit still.

Yes it was very a very different feeling - horrible one lol - and was always worse in the few hours after taking a dose during the day. I instinctively lowered as could tell I didn't want more and felt better the next day. It was quite immediate but was on T3 only so excess would clear quickly but I suppose you have T4 and T3 so might apply still :-)

I just took my blood pressure and it is 175 over 102. I have never had high blood pressure before. I don't know what to do!

I would maybe reduce as you suggested tomorrow morning, if it is this, you might feel better enough immediately to know. Or maybe leave it a little later for a few hours and see if blood pressure/symptoms are better tommorow morning that they have been after taking it. Otherwise maybe you should get your bloods tested and see GP????

Sorry just to be clear in case I wasn't - I'm not an expert nor medically trained so if you're concerned in regards to blood pressure, you should see a doc. What I meant was, If not sure you are concerned, you could hold back your next dose for a few hours (which wouldn't be dangerous) and if you find the same problems don't occur (you mentioned feeling awful after large dose in the morning) or only occur after having taken your dose a few hours later - it might give you a good indication if being caused by too much meds?

Interestingly, after a couple of years GF, I had to do three gluten trials and my thyroid was tested before and immediately after each one.

My tsh shot to 30-50 after each trial and then took three months to come back down after finishing the trial.

Did you have symptoms?

Yes everything I had been diagnosed with that disappeared after going GF immediately came back and could barely get out of bed again even though T3 levels were still okay.

This was one of the results at the end of the trial:

TSH 36.89 T4 <3.2 T3 5.8 (3.30-5.30)

Do you have Celiac's or are you gluten intolerant?

I test negative for coeliacs in bloodtests and biopsy but they have diagnosed me with non-coeliac gluten sensitivity x

Recommend you get your vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 tested too

I am in the emergency room because my blood pressure went extremely high.

My tsh was not even measureable and my t3 was way over range. It was taken about 7 hours after my dose, but it was very, very high. I was advised to cut my NatureThroid in 1/2, but I am now afraid of going back to hypo. This is so overwhelming and makes me just want to cry. I am seeing a new GP tomorrow to try and help me sort this all out.
