My husband and I are trying to conceive and in the past 6 months my cycle has been gradually getting longer currently at 43 days. Spoke to my doctor who ordered bloods for both hormone for early menopause and thyroid and was happy with both result and that was that. I have been told by the doctor they won't do anything with fertility until we have been trying for 12 months. What im wondering has anyone else been able to concieve naturally with a long cycle. I'm 35 years old.

Lmcgovern What were the results of the thyroid tests? Just because the doctor was happy with them, doesn't mean they are optimal for conception. Post the results with their reference ranges. I believe for conception and healthy pregnancy TSH should be below 2, but other members may be able to confirm that.
Lmcgovern,
The TSH of women planning conception should be in the low-normal range 0.4 - 2.5. When pregnancy is confirmed dose is usually increased by 25-50mcg to ensure good foetal develop-ment. NICE also recommends that hypothyroid women planning pregnancy should be referred to endocrinology. cks.nice.org.uk/hypothyroid...

13. The serum TSH reference range in pregnancy is 0·4–2·5 mU/l in the first trimester and 0·4–3·0 mU/l in the second and third trimesters or should be based on the trimester-specific refer-ence range for the population if available. These reference ranges should be achieved where possible with appropriate doses of L-T4 preconception and most importantly in the first tri-mester (1/++0). L-T4/L-T3 combination therapy is not recommended in pregnancy (1/+00).
