Hi, I've been on carbimazole for Graves' Disease for about two months now, during this time I have had constant rashes breaking out across my arms and occasionally on my neck. As well as this, I've had a cough for about 6 weeks, had two courses of antibiotics and steroids to treat the cough but it is only getting worse.
Are these symptoms normal side effects to carbimazole or should I be asking my doctor about other treatments?

I was on Carbimazole for about the same length of time as you until my Gp decided along with me that it didn't suit. The side effects mainly were mouth ulcers which is one of the first indicators that it's attacking your system and therefore time to stop. I am now taking PTU which as far as I know is the only alternative. Best to discuss with your gp as it sounds as if you're having an adverse reaction. Good luck.
Hello there it does sound like you have one of the side effects of carbimazole that needs investigating the doctor may switch you to ptu. Ive been on carbi for 2 months but no problems so far, oh apart from itchy skin 1st 2 weeks . Best to see your gp like advised by mac64.😊
Hi, I went to my GP yesterday and my recent blood test came back normal, my rash has calmed down slightly but no signs of this cough improving, will just need to keep an eye on my bloods!
