I have taken Lactoferrin but not to supplement ferritin, I'm not sure it's sold for that. I haven't had a a recurring viral infection for the last 10 years and if the symptoms occasionally reoccur , they are different from my hypo thyroid ones, I find it knocks them on the head with in a week. I usually combine it with colostrum.

Maybe it does change the ferritin levels but I can't help with that. Perhaps some one else can tell you .

Good luck with your search for good health!

Lactoferrin is usually taken to bolster the immune system (for example, if you have cancer or a virus). It won't increase iron or ferritin, but is anti-microbial, anti-viral and anti-inflammatory.

It appears that there are some studies support the fact that lactoferrin can increase ferritin and iron levels and treat anaemia. Just wondered if anyone had tried it.

I thought it bound iron. Certainly did nothing to raise my ferritin levels while I was taking it, but of course they might have been even lower without it.

I used this Ferritin supplement amazon.co.uk/Crr-Ferritin-B...

It's only 5mg elemental iron though and quite expensive.

I can't say if it will help because every iron supplement I tried cause my already bad constipation to be worse, even just 1 capsule of this. I abandoned iron supplements altogether in favour of eating liver which did the job.

Ok great many thanks. I think I have decided to try 2 sachets of spatone a day plus liver pate next. I might also make some of my own liver pills with frozen liver. I'm a bit nervous of the dedicated ones as they don't say how much vitamin A is in them.

If unsuccessful may have to come back to lactoferrin, ferritin or dessicated liver pills.

Have you tried flaxseed and magnesium for your constipation? I have Ibs-c and have had periods in my life when I couldn't go for weeks. I have found that 1tbsp ground flaxseed in yoghurt or a smoothie everyday and 350mg Magnesium Citrate at night seems to keep things pretty regular (even with iron supplements although I obviously took vitamin c with those too). Also using a "poo stool" has made a huge difference.

Sadly it wasn't simply constipation that meant I have had to stop the iron supplements.

Yes, mag citrate for me :) and I do have a Squatty Potty which helps.
