I didnt know there were so many genetic conditions related to thyroid. Very expensive to get test though.
I do not know how to deal with childs pediatrician with these issues. I found out about the resistance to thyroid alpha gene and as my child has dyspraxia and undiagnosed hypothyroidism I contacted one of the doctors responsible for for its reasurche and ask if she thought my child should be tested. She was very kind and helpful and got back to me asking for the name of his peadiatrician and offerred to advise on testing and possible treatment. She contacted this peadiatrican. I then had a letter from his pediatrician saying that she had contacted an endo in bristol a doctor barton I think, who agrees with her to repeat previous blood tests although I think T3 has been added. She said that he was named as one of the contributers to the thyroid resistance alpha papers. I left it a couple of weeks and then contacted her secretary asking if I could be forwarded copies of the papers she was sent. I said that it was because I had an interest in all things thyroid which is partly true but it was also because I thought she might have lied. I was not sent any copies from her and have just had a look a the studies on line. I cannot find any mention of this Dr Barten. I read the main studies and looked for him in all the references. I also tried to get him treated privately but the private doctor pulled out a couple of days after I informed this pediatrcian my child was going to see her.I am sure she was warned off. I feel like we are under the grips of a control freak and am pretty sure she has only involved this endo to support her lack of treatment. I have now been lied too. My husband says not to confront her with the fact she has lied and I am inclined to agree but I just do not know how to proceed.
