So, I've been taking my thyroid medication for 2 months now, and I've realized that I just feel more tired some days after I take them. Some days I just want to sleep away. Also, I've been doing a lot more research about adrenal fatigue and learning more about the HPA Axis. Being an athlete most of my life and living a stressful lifestyle, this idea has become more interesting to me. Many of my symptoms also coincide with adrenal fatigue, such as being wired and tired at night, waking up feeling like I've been hit with a Ton of bricks, low bp and severe dizziness with exercise and also upon standing up craving salty and carb foods etc. Maybe adrenal fatigue is something I should investigate as well as I've read that the two are inextricably linked and for some it's hard to figure out which came first the chicken or the egg. I'd love to know if anyone has had experiences with adrenal fatigue and low thyroid. I just want to get to the bottom of this thing! It's ruining my life. I've become a recluse, I'm less assertive, social anxiety and would rather not be around people because of the brain fog I suck at conversations.. I try to act the way that I should behave as a 26 year old male but I know I'm not even close to being optimal and it's KILLING me. I'm even having difficulties with learning new things. I remember things that I've acquired before the anxiety fatigue brain fog etc, but as far as learning new things even things like new song lyrics it's not happening. Let alone college level math and sciences. I have to return to my normal self this is not fair. Sorry for the rant..

Thanks so very much!

8 weeks isn't very long at all. I do know however we want to feel much better.

There's no information on your profile and you don't say what dose you are on but I am assuming it's been the same every day?

When starting on NDT, we take a dose (if we've already been on levothyroxine it would be an equivalent changeover) then every 2 weeks increase by 1/4 until you feel you have improved with relief of symptoms.

You should also keep an eye on your pulse/temp and if either goes too high you drop to previous dose.

Also your B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate have to be optimal.

One doctor I know always treated adrenals but Adrenal Extra made me feel worse but some do fine. Another doctor said that once on an optimum dose the adrenals should sort themselves out.

Our bodies cannot function without optimal thyroid hormoes and it has probably taken years before we are finally diagnosed, so it stands to reason it cannot be a quick fix unfortunately.

I do hope you feel better quite soon.

Thank you for the response Shaws. I guess my issue is that I want to be sure that I am in fact making progress, rather than wasting more time. I started at 1/4 grain. I am at a full grain. If I felt even 5% better, atleast then I'd know that I was going in the right direction. As of now, I'm rather uncertain. I just want to see the light at the end of the tunnel, I know that it'll be a journey getting there. So, now I'm thinking if I should maybe look into other areas and see if maybe there's another culprit. My lab results are posted on my first thread. I haven't gotten an update yet. The next time I do, I'll make sure to get a 4 point saliva test to see where my adrenals are. Maybe they're suffering. Who knows? Lol. But again, I just want some sign that I am on the right track, can't afford to waste anymore time.

We are surprised it takes so long as we are used to taking a headache tablet and a short while later it's gone. Unfortunately with the hormones that drive our whole metabolism from head to toe it's not so easy. Our brain has the most T3 receptor cells then heart plus all the billions of T3 receptor cells. As they are hormones it is slow and steady.

It has taken a long time for us to be eventually diagnosed so it will take a little while to recover.

I hope it wont be too long before yo feel good again.

Ttmw,

If you haven't felt an improvement in symptoms then you are not making progress and may be undermedicated.

Have a thyroid blood test 6 weeks after you increased to 1 grain to check TSH and FT3. Arrange the blood test early in the morning when TSH is highest and fast (water only) as TSH drops after eating and drinking. Post your new results and ranges in a new post for comment.

Great suggestions from Shaws and Clutter . I would meantime also suggest that you add some Celtic Sea Salt with warm water and fresh lemon when you wake up . You can take a small pinch of Celtic sea salt through out the day with water . Try to eliminate coffee chocolate sugar . Sleep and rest are very important too for adrenals . Add Vit "C" and B-5 very helpful too . When not well dosed with thyroid meds and trying to add some T3 or raise anything with T3 /NDT it will unmask adrenal insufficiencies . Low impact exercises like walking is fine . Please support your adrenals they will thank you .You might want to read this very good book . Wishing you speedy recovery .
