Lou183jaye,

If you have no thyroid 50mcg Levothyroxine is very unlikely to be sufficient dose. Can you post your recent thyroid results and ranges?

Lou, you're probably on too low a dose of Levo. 50mcg is a starter dose. To know if you would benefit from T3, you need FT4 and FT3 tested at the same time.

Have you got your latest thyroid test results to share, with reference ranges? You are legally entitled to them under the Data Protection Act, your GP can't refuse or he's breaking the law. You could remind him of that.

T3 isn't a weight loss drug, it's optimal levels of thyroid hormone that helps weight loss.

Get your results, post them on here and members will offer guidance. If you are undermedicated then we can provide a link to an article written by a leading endocrinologist regarding thyroid hormone levels and dosing.

She talks a lot of nonsense and in the meantime you are unwell.

Any blood tests for thyroid hormones has to be at the earliest possible, fasting (you can drink water) and allow a gap of 24 hours between your last dose of levo and test and take afterwards.

We need increases in order to relieve all symptoms.

No wonder we get exasperated with the ineptitude of doctors who thinks 50mcg is a satisfactory dose. In the meantime tick your symptoms and present them to her stating that taking thyroid hormone repacement is to alleviate all symptoms, not give you more.

A starting dose can backfire, we need increases until TSH is 1 or lower - not within range and if you get a copy of your latest results post on a new question and I bet your TSH is 'somewhere' in the range, maybe near top instead of 1 or below.

Lou183jaye,

If you are in the UK the Data Protection Act entitles patients to their test results. Tell your GP receptionist, practice manager or GP that you want to know what your results and ranges are and will make a subject access request if they refuse. ico.org.uk/for_the_public/t...
