Explaination of result

Advice1 The only way to find out whether a thyroid nodule is malignant or not is a fine needle aspiration biopsy. A good ultrasound specialist can make a judgement (which they have made in your case) but they cannot be absolutely sure. Majority of thyroid nodules are benign but but it's better to be safe than sorry. You probably have nothing to worry about but if I were you I'd ask for the biggest nodule and the two, which were described as "intermediate suspicion for malignancy" to be biopsied. NHS doesn't do biopsies on thyroid nodules smaller than 1cm so it might be tricky to get the latter two biopsied but they suggested a possible biopsy on the largest one. Ask for a second opinion if they refuse. FNA biopsy takes 5 mins and is painless: it's like a mosquito bite.
Hello kitten1978
thank you for your kind advice which is very generous of you ,i will get a second opinion as you suggest with an interest in the largest nodule being FNA for peace of mind .
Thank for the explaination and your helpful support too.Great to have helpful people like yourself on the forum.
Good Luck.
You are welcome. As I said before: don't worry about your nodules but get them biopsied for your peace of mind. It's better to be safe than sorry. Thyroid nodule biopsy is one of the least unpleasant medical procedures I've been through: less painful than having bloods taken
