Yes, Seaside Susie is dead right. I would like to add that Amitriptyline is an antidepressant, you might find that once you get to a proper dose of Levo (or some other thyroid med) these feelings of depression will disappear.

Tell your doc you would like to concentrate on getting your thyroid med dose correct so that you can stop taking Amitriptyline. You might also take SSS's post for him to read. Doc's really do not go into drug interactions. - they are pretty ignorant.

I would get a Free T3 blood test first because if you are hypo it may be low and T3 is the only active thyroid hormone which is required in our receptor cells. The brain has the most T3 cells so if your FT3 is low could it be the doctor is treating your 'symptom' rather than a thyroid hormone deficiency? If doctor wont request FT3 you can have a private one.

Yes spot on Shaws. Sorry you have been having a tough time.

I would definitely suggest you have a private test as mentioned above to test all the thyroid functions plus 11 vitamins through blue horizon. If you are not converting t4 to t3, have absorbtion issues or vitamin deficiency these will definitely affect how you feel. In the meantime eat healthy fats like nuts seeds and coconut oil as these help absorb fat soluble vitamins and minerals. Oily fish is great- just eat a strawberry before it as the fibre absorbs any heavy metals like mercury ( Mike Adams).

Low fat diets are a no no. Try and get as much sunshine as possible. No one has ever died from 6 mins on a sun bed once a week( assures my sister who is a cancer research scientist but not if anyone has moles)

Sleep before 10pm is important ( see drsarahmyhill web page on melatonin- it's only produced between 10pm to 00.01 am). Lack of it can cause problems too. On one of her site pages she mentions adrenal issues can cause depression.

Sadly good health is like an onion you have to peel lots of layers to find the good bit.

GPs receive a monetary sum in most surgeries to place someone on antidepressants- so its hardly impartial and they are addictive no matter what is suggested. There is usually a sound reason we all have problems- we aren't born with them they all develop- life style diets stress illness etc.
