It will be quite some time before I can get to read this paper. However, endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are very important and largely ignored by the endocrine community. Since phthalates have short half lives it is unlikely that they explain the hypothyroid problems many patients experience. e.g. when on holiday, away from phthalate exposure we would get better. This doesn't seem to happen.
