Could a copper coil affect your levels? Have been doing some backtracking...I had IUD fitted 25th Jan...2 weeks later symptoms started, although it was also the same time as the brand change etc... it does say its non hormonal but then reading posts on the internet a lot of people have symptoms similar...could mine be enhanced by having this in my body..??

I'm sorry I don't know more but when I had a coil I had crazy heavy bleeding, and am always anaemic anyway. Does that sound like your situation?

Hiya, thanks for the reply, mine has been more coincidental...I got it fitted and a couple of weeks later started signs of over medication. ..could be unrelated but reading some things on Internet from people who have had it and had it removed the symptoms seem similar...and they don't have thyroid issues...😞

Ah, I wondered if you had hypo symptoms. That is the limit of my knowledge I'm afraid.

If you do a search for "copper zinc thyroid" there are loads of links to be found.

If someone has too much copper then their zinc levels are likely to be low. Conversely, low copper tends to happen with high levels of zinc.

I don't have the faintest idea how much copper is likely to leach out of your IUD and into your body. But if such a thing can happen then perhaps you should supplement with zinc to keep your copper/zinc ratio healthy.

Perhaps you should get your copper and zinc tested. :)

I must admit I put off testing copper and zinc for several years because I thought it was terribly expensive. I got it done for the first time a couple of months ago when it was on special offer.

That is curious. Everything I've read suggests that high copper and low zinc is the usual finding when blood tests are done.

That was the case with my results. Copper was slightly over the range and zinc was below mid-range. I haven't done anything about it yet though.

Didn't have copper and zinc tests done. Just going on how I felt before and after (many years ago). Slim, lots of energy, good hair, to tired all the time, stacking on weight and hair loss. A few years later my adrenals fell over, but I can't say whether it was related.

I developed hyperthyroidism 4 months after having the mirena (plastic coil with hormones) fitted and was told it was co-incidence. Your body can have an immune response to the copper coil as well. When was your last blood tests?

Hiya, last blood came in last Monday was just T4 and TSH though... I went to have it removed the other day and the nurse was really unsympathetic, told me it was all a co-incedance and made me feel really stupid so I agreed to keep it in ...

I had two types of coil fitted and had horrendous heavy and persistent bleeding with both . I found out many years later that I have a lot of allergies , Nickel +++ is my worst and also iron oxides and MI and MCH . I often wonder if my Graves Disease was triggered due to being exposed to the things that I am allergic to .
