Hi it is normal because it's early days yet - not even a month! I really hope that the improvement continues but you are utilising Thyroxine already in your system and not necessarily producing more. I was ok for the first three or four weeks but the hypo gradually kicked in. When I had my follow up after six weeks I was putting on weight, feeling cold, and dropping off to sleep every time I sat down! Maybe my results hadn't caught up with symptoms but they said 'you need to adjust to living with a slower metabolism' . Needless to say over the next 3 or 4 weeks I got progressively worse, couldn't even get out of bed and felt everything was shutting down. Gp was horrified when results showed TSH of 80 and T4 around 2ish. Please don't let Endo fob you off if you are having hypo signs when you go for follow up. Good luck and I really hope RAI has worked for you without completely destroying your thyroid. Take care.

Hi some people go hypo quite quickly and others it can take time , but make sure you get regular bloodtest as it can make you feel pretty ill when you go hypo and then don't get the proper meds.

I hope that I'm able to take my dog out when she needs to. Not looking forward to the next two to three weeks

You're very welcome. I can only tell my story. Everybody is different. I'm sure you will be fine and able to take your dog out when necessary. Just be aware of any symptoms as they occur and be firm with the medics if they take a similar attitude to you as they took with me. I had RAI towards the end of the October, follow up appointment six weeks later and had quite bad hypo symptoms by that time. By the beginning of January I was really poorly as I said earlier so the timescale for me was about 9 to 10 weeks from RAI treatment. This was about 13 years ago so maybe these days they prescribe levo soon after RAI automatically. Keep well and enjoy walks with your dog x

Yup, that's normal.

And then gradually you'll experience changes, but not necessarily for the better.

If you are being prescribed levothyroxine/synthroid then you will need to consider whether it is the correct medication for you or whether an upgrade is required. Just don't leave it too long in the forlorn hope that things may improve, as the delay could permanently damage your health, as it seems to have done for me when I suffered for 8 years on levo when NDT was the correct thing for me.

Thanks for the info

My doctor will start me on Levo on the 27 th as he said. Is Synthroid the same as Levo ? I hoe not he put on it years ago but since I have hep-c it raised my liver enzymes so he said to stop them. But I go in to the hep doctor on the 6 to start the once a day pill to cure it. Won't that interfere with my thyroid meds ? I'm debating not to take it cause I heard on the news it can cause liver failure so will see after I talk to them

All the synthetic T4 thyroid hormone are very much the same except for the fillers. I know nothing about hep-c and can make no comments about it.

What I can say from experience, however, is that it could be highly dangerous when on T4/levo treatment to keep varying doses up/down, when the symptoms remain, simply in order to try and find the elusive point at which the symptoms are brought under control.

That is what I did. I can, of course, not prove my allegation, but I strongly believe that this indirectly caused my kidney cancer. Then again, the doctors cannot prove that it did NOT cause my kidney cancer!
