I had a TT in 2007, had right vocal chord paralysis which was surgically repaired. The past couple of weeks ive noticed a swelling where my thyroid should be, Im uncomfortable swallowing & the lump is movable.
Been to GP this morning & im being referred for a scan which could take up to 4 months.
Could it be remnants of the thyroid left behind that has grown or something more sinister.

4 months for a scan appt is ridiculous, find a hospital with the shortest wait time and ask your GP to refer you there.
Gp says if the swelling/breathing/swallowing gets worse to go back
You shouldn't have to wait for it to get worse, if it were me I would be making phone calls.

Its potentially cancer (although probably much more likely to be a cyst, especially since its mobile) and you should be on the fast track referral scheme. When I had almost zero chance of ovarian cancer I had a scan within a week, and saw a consultant in less than two. It was a couple of years ago, but as far as I know its still the rule.
Sorry, probably shouldn't be using the C word, but you need to say it clearly to the doctor. You have been thinking it anyway.

Anyone would panic and overthink. That is why you need the scan. But if its growing this fast they cannot possibly justify making you wait 4 months.
You will worry about it until it's done. I agree with the other responders. Get it done now.
or go to the scan facility with your order and sit and wait. I've done that. Somehow they will fit you in. (I live in the states, don't know if you can do that in UK?) My doc gives me the order and I choose where to have it done.
Sometimes when we are truly anxious about a medical situation, we experience an aspect of the fight/flight mechanism that is often overlooked: freeze. It causes us to prevaricate.
Don't wait, don't use any excuse to prevaricate, don't over think that it could be this, that or the other, just get back to the GP and demand to be fast tracked.

But it's very difficult to get anyone in 'freeze mode' to get moving. In emergency situations, these people need to be physically pushed like in airplane emergency situations for example. I was reading about this sort of thing a number of years ago. I had not ever thought about it before, just as most people think 'fight and flight' but 'freeze' is a huge problem.
My daughter in law has a large lump on her thyroid, from her first GP appointment to removal surgery (tomorrow) it has taken three weeks. Within a week of Gp app she had her scan and biopsies done, she got her biopsy results last Thursday Monday she saw the specialist cancer guy, and tomorrow she is having her thyroid and parathyroid removed. When the NHS works as it should it is truly amazing..... don't leave it is my advice, get back to your Gp asap.
i completely agree with the above, cause a stink and get it done now, do not feel the need to ask, demand it is done put it in writing so its on your notes, your dr cant afford to ignore it then.
Stress and worry make us worse. I had 80% of mine removed, small bit attchd to my vocal chord so they left it, it has nodules and small cyst but so far has not caused me any trouble. My op went well but i had no follow up and became very ill as no one told me i needed to take thyroid replacement. Keep a journal of what symptoms daily, dr appts and what he says, you may need it later on, i kept records and details and it turned out i did need it later for formal complaint to ombudsman. Also ask for all tests tsh t4 t3 b12 vit D ferritin folate etc as you will need all these to be optimal to feel well. When i wasnt well i put everything in writing as i couldnt concentrate enough to talk on appts and was harder for my dr to patronise me and fob me off. If necessary get a friend or family to go with you.
