Take action so that 237,000 eligible carers get state pension 'Carer's Credits'
The government must do more ensure approximately 237,000 carers receive National Insurance (NI) credits to their state pension. It's estimated that as many as 95% of the 250,000 carers who could get Carer's Credits are not receiving them. They may retire on a lower state pension as a result.
In receipt of child allowance also gives credits. When my husband died I was contacted and my widows pension was based on my husband's figures. I had 100% credits but my husbands was less so I asked wouldn't it be better to do it on my but apparently not as he had been paying more into the system. I then got a form to sign that I was happy with the figures! Most I could check but one I couldn't, forgotten what it was for now but I rang up and asked what it was and was told I can't chess that. It it's off a chart they hold!!! I did say they were asking me to sign for something I couldn't fully check but basically told I had to trust them!!!!
