Sorry to hear you're so tired. Do you know if you're optimally replaced (good levels of t3 and t4, high in range)? Other nutrients (iron, d, b12, folate) can be key as well.

It is more difficult without a thyroid gland and I do hope your doctors have given you sufficient levothyroxine or better still levothyroxine/liothyronine. Levothyroixine is T4 and liothyronine is T3 and many do best with a combination when they have no gland.

1. When you go for a blood test it should be the very earliest possible and fasting (you can drink water).

2. Allow 24 hours between your last dose of levothyroxine which should be taken either first thing in the morning with a full glass of water and wait about an hour before eating or at bedtime (as long as you've last eaten about 2 to 3 hours before).

At your next blood test ask for Free T4 and Free T3 to be done as you need to know how much is circulating in your blood in order for you to feel better.

3. Ask for your B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate to be checked too as we can be deficient and they also cause symptoms if low.

Always get a print-out of your results with the ranges for your own records and you can post if you have a query.

Thank you for sense of support you give with answering .

Tired, but sleep pattern very poor 😞

I am doing BH test on Tuesday , booked with health centre as I couldnt manage it when I tried finger prick test. O didnt mention it was a private test , so, wish me luck getting it done.

Thankyou again xx

Make sure you drink plenty of water the day before so that blood is easier to draw. Also keep warm if possible as that also helps.

How long ago did you have your thyroidectomy? I had mine 2 yrs ago and can say that the first year was a struggle. It takes a while to get your medication and the relevant vitamins and minerals to the right level. I am still "getting there" but am much better.

Read and learn as much as you can from this site and others. If you have any questions post them and lovely people will try and help. I have been helped enormously by people in this site.

If you are in the UK there is a Facebook site called "UK without a thyroid"

Good luck with your recovery x

Hello mrsm49 My TT was February 2016 so not yet a year.

This site has been enormous help to me. I am much better than I was but having moved 3 weeks ago and with Christmas I have got so tired.

I always put on a brave face and don't get much help. This site has given me a place to come to and get that support . I find it amazing, so big big thanks to everyone here.

😘😘 may the coming year be good to everyone. Xx

Hello and welcome to the "no-thyroid" club. It took me a few months to start feeling the full effects from the loss of my thyroid. It became quite apparent after about 9 months that the T4 levo was not right when the last couple of days of my 2006 holiday was totally ruined as I had no energy to do anything and was forced to stay in bed. After that it became increasing worse until the point I abandoned all faith in my GP and started on NDT. I now don't feel completely perfect but there's no way in the world that I'm ever going to take levo ever again.

It may possibly be that you could get some T3 off your doc. In that case I wish you the best of luck. The proportion of T3 to T4 as are in NDT may also give you a boost if you can persuade the doc about its merits. If all that fails then get some NDT and try it.

Hi Panda 321.

I know docs will not support my use of that.

From what I read I think it may be worth a try

My experience has taught me that docs have no idea , sadly.

They are ok if you break a leg or arm etc, maybe some other things I can't quite think now but, hey ho !!!

Have a peaceful New Year xx
