I picked up my levo prescription and instead of it being my usual Activis, I've been given mercury pharma... Does this matter??

Jojojowilts43,

The time to check which make of Levothyroxine you have been given is when you are at the counter. Most pharmacies won't accept the medication back for exchange once you've left the pharmacy. If Mercury Pharma doesn't suit tell your pharmacist and ask them to make sure that you are dispensed Actavis in future.

Hi, thank you for reply. I didn't think to check as I just expected it to be same brand. Does it make any difference? On both boxes it says it contains exact same ingredients. I already take two different brand names.. 100mcg(actavis) 25mcg(wockhardt)

It will only say the same Active Ingredient - look further down at the other ingredients (Excipients) they will NOT be the same.

I have had those and now Teva with no difference noted as yet.But the fillers etc are different and may gave an allergic effect for some. Some posters can only manage on avspecific brand.

Jojojowilts43,

It doesn't matter if you don't have any adverse effects. If you do, do as I suggested above and talk to your pharmacist.

If they change the brand, then they should retest your thyroid levels 6-8 weeks after. Different brands work differently in different people and vary in how much is absorbed
