Just wondered if people get mild forms of under active thyroid or is it likely to always get worse if not treated.

I think I may have been hypo for the past 2 years. With anxiety shaking low mood etc is it normal for these symptoms to come and go because the last few week and on and off the past 2 years, I been fine. It's only since diagnosis I think anxiety has made me feel worse.

Becoming hypothyroid is a very slow progress that we are unaware of anything deteriorating at all initially. Then (and it might be gradual) symptoms begin and eventually we go to GP. Sometimes they just send you off without even doing a blood test due to the fact they know no symptoms.

If sometimes you felt not too bad and at other times not so good, have you had your antibodies tested. If you do have thyroid antibodies it would mean you have an Autoimmune Thyroid Disease called hashimoto's. Sometimes you feel worse and the antibodies attack and wane resulting in the person feeling worse and then improving a bit.

Anxiety is a clinical symptom too and hopefully it will settle as your levo is increased.

Usually, 50mcg is a starting dose with a blood test every six to eight weeks (I had mine six weekly) and an increase of 25mcg until symptoms improve. Unfortunately many doctors think if the TSH reaches anywhere in range that's the job done. Not so. For us to feel an improvement a TSH of 1 is the aim and we need sufficient hormones.

My Dr started me on 25mg every other day, which I've been told is a very light dose. Not sure if it's going to do any good at all.

I'm sending off for a thyroid+11 via blue horizon then have an appointment with Dr peatfield in December. I have no idea if I have hashimotos as my Dr just gave me a prescription a leaflet and told me to come back in 6 weeks.

I guess you have to find out about things yourself

You can ask for copies of blood results and if you post them here people will help you figure them out.

I'm doubtful that that miniscule dose of meds will help. One of my most awful symptoms was terrible shaking anxiety and it is greatly improved on a good dose of meds.
