I'm new here and wish to thank everybody for sharing their experiences in their helpful posts.
I would welcome your input.
I'm 56 ( female) and always very tried , no energy at all, but the docs say I'm borderline with thryoid and don't need medication . I'm tired from the moment I wake up. I have Barlow's syndrome with my heart so always take it easy. I've been like this for years but recently it's worsened.
I also have 'heavy ' legs, and often a dull persistent ache in both legs for days on end.
My diet is very good though I'm 10 kilos above my ideal weight.( 160 cms , 65 kgs)
A recent hospital medical check ( blood/ urine) found nothing .
I don't know what else to do or where to go next to find out what's wrong with me. If anyone could suggest anything, I'd be most grateful.

Ask your GP receptionist for a printout of your recent results with the ranges (figures in brackets after results) and post them in a new question and members will advise. If you have results and ranges for vitamin D, ferritin, B12 and folate post them too.
Barlow's Syndrome can cause fatigue and palpitations.

If you read alot of posts you will see little advice can be given without seeing the blood test results with the ranges in brackets. It is usually recommended to have : FT4,FT3,TSH, and antibodies, plus ferritin, folate ,B12 and D3. The NHS may not test some of these.
I'm afraid I can't say. However among all the folks I know, no-one has any thryoid problems. When I had tests done in America, they told me to eat seaweed.
However thank you for bringing this to my attention.
Yes, there are a lot of people - including some doctors - that think all you have to do for a thyroid problem is throw iodine at it! But, there are so many reasons why people might have a thyroid problem, so many causes. And iodine will only help if the cause is iodine deficiency. And you can only know that by getting tested.
People with thyroid problems should not be taking excess iodine - you get iodine from your thyroid hormone replacement - 100 mcg levo gives you 60 mcg iodine. Plus whatever you get from your food. The recommended daily intake of iodine is 150 mcg, so you can see that you can easily go over that.
Excess iodine can cause all sorts of problems with the thyroid gland. And can even trigger Hashi's.
I was ignorant of what I should have tested and desperate to start feeling better . The lab at local hospital seemed very stingy on what they would and would not test ! Therefore I decided to self medicate and take my chances .. I've never regretted it !
Others of my family with Thyroud disease have b12 injections .. And soon after I started to take it my energy increased so much I knew it was working for me .. It has strengthened my immune system I'm sure .. Same with D3
And the other supplements I take now...
I may be unconventional or even wrong .. But No one was helping me ..
I think my body was so low in things it needed that by supplementing I've made my self feel well again ... And can thank the doctors for nothing ....
