T3: Please can somebody send me a link to buy... - Thyroid UK
T3
Netty66 T3 or Natural Desiccated Thyroid? They come from different suppliers. They are different medications.
If you give some more information, blood test results, present medication, etc., members can advise about dosing etc.
Hi, it's natural dessicated thyroid I am after, my daughter has been on levothyroxine for 3 years with no relief from symptoms, she is now 17 and today we finally got to see an endocrinologist after a major fight with my GP to refer her! He has recommended she stops her current medication and takes 30mg twice daily of NDT which he has told me to buy in Internet as he couldn't prescribe it, he wants to see her again in four months, I am struggling to find a website I can buy it from without a prescription, sorry for the essay!!
Netty66 Thank you for that
Just one thing, is your daughter of an age to take personal responsibility for this or is she still considered a 'child' in your care? I only ask because there was a case of a mother of a younger child taking her to see a specialist abroad who prescribed NDT and it resulted in the child being taken into care and the mother arrested (sketch details but eventually the child was returned, really nasty case it was).
I will send you a couple of suppliers by PM in a minute but do take heed of the above caution is you are considered her 'carer/guardian'. I know the endo said to buy it, but he's relieving himself of any responsibility that way. Would he like to put it in writing that he told you to buy it off the internet I wonder?
He can actually prescribe it, I believe Armour or Erfa (and maybe a couple of others) can be prescribed on a 'named patient basis'. You should be able to find some information about that on ThyroidUK's main website thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/treatm...
or maybe another member knows more information about that.
Netty66,
Welcome to our forum and you have joined today but you haven't given us any information on what you have been diagnosed with. What medication you are on at present etc.
Do you have any results of recent blood tests etc.
Hi, have just replied to seaside suzie with an explanation!
Thanks for your response and am glad you have found an 'excellen't (it would seem to me) Endocrinologist and if you wouldn't mind emailing louise.warvill@thyroiduk.org.uk and give his/her name as we are desperate for good doctors who treat the patient and not the tests.
Those who source online will respond with a Private Message to you as we don't put doctors names on the open forum for obvious reasons and to protect them.
I am sure your daughter will respond to the natural dessicated thyroid hormones well.
You can always post her blood test results with the ranges for comments.
When she has a blood test it should be the earliest possible and fasting although she can drink water. Also leave about 24 hours between the last dose of NDT and the test and take it afterwards.
NDT should be taken on an empty stomach with one full glass of water and don't eat for approx 1 hour as food can interfere with the uptake of thyroid hormones.
Best wishes to your daughter and I feel sorry when someone is so young to deal with hypo.
If she prefers NDT can be taken at bedtime as long as she's last eaten about 2.5 hours before. If she's had a 'fatty meal' it takes longer to digest so 3 hours, I think for that.
(I am not medically qualified but have the experience of being undiagnosed/unmedicated but am fine now)
