First thing to do is get hold of your latest lab test results and post them on here. No-one can help you if they don't have all the details. :)

It could be that your aren't on sufficient Synthroid a brand levothyroxine. I believe you're in the USA as in the UK only levothyroxine is prescribed (i.e. no brand just generic).

Or you aren't on a sufficient dose yet and the aim should be a TSH of around 1 or lower or suppressed (although doctors wrongly believe that anywhere in the range (even top) is fine) No it isn't. I shall give you a link below.

Weight gain is one of the commonest questions on this forum and causes great distress to members. Also before being diagnosed unexplained weight gain is a clinical symptom.

(I'm not medically qualified and have hypothyroidism but am fine now but I was fortunate not to gain weight. I did however have to try several thyroid hormones, NDT (natural dessicated thyroid hormones - they contain all of the hormones a healthy gland would produce and has been in use in various forms since 1892). Promotion by the pharma companies to persuade doctors to change to a 'perfect' replacement worked and that seems to be the worldwide prescription only. In fact many of our members have sourced their own hormones.

When you go for a blood test for thyroid hormones it should be the earliest possible available and fast. Also allow approx 24 hours between your last dose and the test and take it afterwards. This allows the TSH to be highest. Always get a print-out of your results with the ranges for your own records and post for comments if necessary. Also get B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate checked and thyroid antibodies.

Post your results with the ranges and members will advise.

You are on a t4 only medication and synthetic thyroid meds are not great in my opinion. I am doing much better on Natural Dessicated Thyroid Hormone medication, which also has the needed t3 hormone. Go to stopthethyroidmadness.com. It's a life saver. Good luck!

Now I've read that you are taking generic medication. Even worse.
