Is this common between hypothyroid patients? Any scientific explanation?

Ali1101,

I assume you mean you *feel* hypo during the day and okay at night? I've seen some hypothyroid patients say this but I wouldn't say it was common. A lot of hypo patients feel completely exhausted by the evening and drop into bed as soon as possible.

You are right, Generally, I feel better at night most of the times not even always.

Cold be your adrenals are struggling. They can't quite make enough cortisol to make you feel well, until the evening. It would be a good idea to get a 24 hours saliva test. But they don't do that on the NHS. :(

Could be something related to adrenals, I agree. So, those with low cortisol in the morning how are they treated?

Depends how much your doctor knows about adrenals. But must of them don't know very much at all. Certainly not a GP, but an endo might give you HydroCortisone. There are also adrenal glandulars, that some doctors like. It depends.

But, what you can do yourself is to make sure you get plenty of vit C, and plenty of salt, and make sure your your B vitamins are optimal. Also, start the day with some good protein for breakfast.

It might be time to see an Endo .. I find protein in the morning to help! Thanks greygoose.

I am like this Ali1101 , but haven't had adrenals tested. I think if I'm not doing much in the day, due to hypo symptoms and generally feeling unwell and tired, then I seem to feel 'brighter' in the evening/nightime. A hard days work can result in flopping into bed or finding it hard to wind down though, so it really is a nightmare. Definitely not a morning person, unless I feel free to sit around and drink latte :/ takes me ages to get motivated

I also have this pattern. If I haven't tired myself out in the day, I will feel much more myself late in the evening. I believe it is adrenal related. At the moment my adrenals are a lot better than they have been, but I still get this basic pattern.

When I was more ill, this caused a lot more problems, like having too much energy to sleep, or waking up after an hour or two, and feeling far more awake and able to do things than I had all day. It's very easy to slip into late nights, especially when nothing useful has been done all day and suddenly I start racing about cleaning up the house and cooking meals!
